This week, we lost three icons of our times. A humble tribute to them. They will continue to inspire us to believe in oneself and to continue on the chosen path.
It’s ironical that when arguably India’s best-ever batsman Kohli and his team are 0-2 down in England, we lost our captain who defeated England in England for the first time ever. The southpaw used to bat at number 3 and was the Sehwag+Srikanth of his times. He also led India in the first ever ODI that India played.
Both Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar have many a stories to tell about Ajit, while mimicking Ajit for his pet phrase “Arrey Kai Re…”
Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both…
writes Robert Frost in his poem Two Roads. Atal Ji knew which road is his. With all his conviction, he chose the road that leads to the service of the Nation. The poet in him elaborated it in all its poetic beauty when he wrote:
The poet in him could see all the sorrow and desperation and poverty around him, he could not turn a blind eye toward it, but he also carried the weight of a Leader who must lead no matter how bleak the situation may look. He did not have the luxury to fire the poison-dipped salvos at unknown, so called “merchants of destiny” but at himself and point us to the light at the end of the tunnel… encourage us to be the “Karm Veer” and fight on.
His words will continue to inspire generations to come and will respond to his clarion call.
Aretha Franklin was a gifted singer who fought difficult childhood and early disappointments in her musical career. But when her star rose, it shone like no one else! She sang at the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 and 40 years later in 2008, sang at the inauguration of Barack Obama. And in 2018, her single RESPECT is the anthem of #MeToo movement.
She famously said
“Being a singer is a natural gift. It means I’m using to the highest degree possible the gift that God gave me to use. I’m happy with that.”
